SHAMROCK ROVERS YOUNGSTER Conor Grant is joining Championship club Sheffield Wednesday, the Irish side have confirmed.
The midfielder, who turns 16 in July, only signed for the League of Ireland club from Malahide United last January.
“Conor first came to our attention playing for the DDSL,” Shamrock Rovers Academy Director Shane Robinson said in reaction to the news. “A talented individual with the ability to go by his opponent with a drop of the shoulder, he has attributes we are looking to bring into our first team and has been a pleasure to work with in the short time he’s been here. We wish him all the best in his new adventure.”
Shamrock Rovers have a pathway to professional football and is committed to providing this for homegrown talent,” Sporting Director Stephen McPhail added. “Despite this Conor is an example of our endeavours to give young players a platform to excel and showcase their talents. If players like Conor go on to have a successful career in other countries then we will have played our part.”
Grant will travel with the Rovers U17 side to Kerry this weekend and play his last game for the club before linking up with Sheffield Wednesday.
