Counted out: Haye will not fight again - Booth

David Haye’s trainer, Adam Booth, has said the 31-year-old will not come out of retirement.

ADAM BOOTH, TRAINER to David Haye, says his fighter has no plans of coming out of retirement.

Haye is currently the centre of a massive controversy in boxing.

On Saturday night, he brawled with his countryman, Dereck Chisora, following Chisora’s heavyweight title bout with Vitali Klitschko.

Yesterday, Chisora apologised for his part in the row and was called before the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBC) on a misconduct charge.

Haye, relinquished his license last year after retiring on his 31st birthday – a long standing vow.

However, the former heavyweight champion had been angling for a return bout with the elder Klitschko and his public exchange with his promoter, Bernd Boente, led to the ugly scenes between he and Chisora.

Today, Booth told the BBC, that return is not on the cards:

“Boente categorically said that fight would never happen. So David is still retired and has no plans to fight again.”

Speaking about the Munich brawl, Booth (who was reportedly struck by a camera tripod wielded by his own fighter) responded to the theory that the shameful scenes were, in fact, a publicity stunt:

“If that was staged, I didn’t get that memo because I would have ducked. David had no intention before and has no intention now of fighting Dereck Chisora.”

Should the situation change and either of the Klitschko brothers express an interest in fighting Haye, then he could face opposition from the BBBC amid calls that he be handed a lifetime ban for his part in scenes which many feel are a disgrace to an already tarnished sport.
