Counties asked to make written submissions on payments issue

The GAA wants to hear from every county during one of the most contentious debates to face the association in recent years.

COUNTY BOARDS HAVE been invited to have their say on the GAA’s recently-completed ‘Payments To Team Managers’ report.

Representatives met with officials at Croke Park on Saturday and now have five weeks to put together their proposals to deal with the matter, which is once again in the spotlight.

A statement confirmed: “As part of the consultation process in relation to – The GAA Amateur Status and Payments To Team Managers document, a meeting was held with County Officials in Croke Park today.

“A written submission will be submitted by each County after their own internal discussions by the 24th of February 2012 in the next phase of the consultation process.”

Director General of the GAA, Paraic Duffy has insisted that the association must act after making three suggestions in his 29-page document.

An estimated €12 million is currently being paid out to managers, though former county boss John O’Mahony has insisted that medals rather than money remains the primary motivation for people involved in the sport.
