THE BUSY BEES at Croke Park are gearing up for a bumper weekend of football and hurling fare, with close on 165,000 eager GAA fans set to flock to HQ over the course of two days.
Saturday’s All-Ireland football semi-final replay between Dublin and Mayo is an 82,300 sellout and ditto for Sunday’s hurling finals.
Behind the scenes, preparations have begun in earnest and groundstaff will work through the night to ensure that the pristine sod is in mint condition for Sunday’s hurling fare, following what promises to be another bruising football clash on Saturday.
It’s also been confirmed that Aslan will perform on the hallowed turf before throw-in on Saturday, giving fans flocking to Drumcondra an extra incentive to get there early.
GAA coffers could swell to the tune of €3m as a result of the Dublin-Mayo clash while Sunday’s hurling deciders in the minor and senior grades will generate over €6m in gate receipts.
