Duff's strike helped Melbourne to a 5-2 win.
G'Day

Duffer scored his first goal in Australia's A-League today

He won a penalty and claimed an assist as well.

DAMIEN DUFF FINISHED 2014 with a bang — and with his first league goal in Australian football.

Duffer starred as Melbourne City FC beat the Newcastle Jets 5-2 to move up to sixth in the A-League table.

Melbourne opened the scoring in the fourth minute when a jinking Duff was brought down inside the box and Aaron Mooy converted the penalty.

Robert Koren (formerly of West Brom and Hull fame) doubled the lead before Duff drilled home in a crowded box to make it 3-0 on 24 minutes.

The former Ireland international then turned provider with an assist for Koren’s second. The Slovenian rounded off his hat-trick with 16 minutes to play, though Newcastle did score two second-half consolations.
