Damien Duff signs up for Merryn Lacy football fundraiser at Carlisle Grounds

The former Ireland international will take part in the exhibition match on 15 June.

DAMIEN DUFF IS back in Ireland this summer to mull over his next career move, following his departure from relegated Premier League side Fulham.

The former Ireland midfielder, who may follow Robbie Keane to Major League Soccer in the United States, is keeping active by signing up for a football fundraiser in two weeks’ time.

Duff has agreed to tog out and take part in a friendly match in aid of the Merryn Lacy Trust at the Carlisle Grounds, Bray on 15 June [kick-off 2pm]. The game will be between former players of Ardmore Rovers and Wolfe Tone YC.

All money raised on the day — adults entrance fee is €5 and children go free — will go towards the treatment and care of five-year-old Dublin girl Merryn Lacy, who was diagnosed, last year with Stage 4 Neuroblastoma — an aggresive childhood cancer of the nervous system.

Lacy has, thus far, been through two cycles of chemotherapy [12 rounds in total] and had an operation, in March, to remove a kidney and a tumour. She has now begun his third cycle of chemotherapy. In between treatments, she has found time to visit the Irish football and rugby team and pose for pictures with the willing stars.

To find out more about Merryn Lacy’s story, and the match, check the trust’s Facebook page or follow @merrynlacy.
