LIVERPOOL DEFENDER DANIEL AGGER feels that all of the club’s players need to share the goalscoring burden left by the failure to sign any new strikers on transfer deadline day, taking the pressure off the under-fire Fabio Borini and Luis Suarez.
The Reds have only scored twice in their first three Premier League games, and currently lie in the relegation zone with just one point to their name.
The backlash to the loan of Andy Carroll to West Ham, and the club’s failure to replace him, was made even worse by a poor performance in the 2-0 defeat to Arsenal on Sunday.
However, Agger told the Liverpool Echo that the chances are being created – his team just needs to take them.
“Of course the lack of goals so far is a concern. You could see against Arsenal that it wasn’t only one player.
“It wasn’t two players, it was three, four, five, six players who had chances, including myself. The chances are there and that’s the most important thing, but we all need to start taking them.”
Agger says a lack of effort is certainly not to blame for his team’s current predicament.
“I’m still upbeat about the quality in the group,” he added.
“Everybody has to believe in it, otherwise they shouldn’t be at a club like this. Nothing is easy to fix – not in football and not in life – but we are working on the manager’s ideas every single day, so hopefully we can get better and better during the course of the season. We are trying everything we can.”
