Dapper Laughs dating show cancelled by ITV after outcry over rape jokes

On the Pull is being pulled.

ITV HAS ANNOUNCED that it won’t be commissioning a second series of the dating show hosted by comedian Dapper Laughs.

Dapper Laughs,  aka Woking man Daniel O’Reilly, gained notoriety in the past week after a show of his was cancelled by Cardiff University following student protests, and after a public row with the website UsVsTh3m.

The problem? Dapper Laughs’ attitude to and jokes about women, rape and homelessness amongst other topics.

More than 50,000 people, including a number of prominent writers and comedians signed a petition to have the show On the Pull removed from the ITV2 schedule.

It seems a video in which the comedian is seen telling an audience member at a London show that she was “gagging for a rape” may have been the final straw.

BBC’s Newsbeat reports that an ITV spokesperson said that the criticism of Dapper Laughs’ activities “outside of the ITV2 programme” led to the decision not to renew the show.

The show also appears to have been removed from the ITV website.

The station had previously said that it “his unique brand of banter and brash charm is neither sexist or degrading to women and that his approach to pulling is based on displaying the right attitude to women in order to succeed”.
