The average Irish "date night" costs how much?

Get saving for Valentine’s.

IRELAND IS THE sixth most expensive country in the EU to enjoy a date according to a new survey.

The cinema, dinner and bottle of wine can set you back more in Ireland than 21 EU states.

However, that is down three places from a similar survey carried out last year.

Consumer network OneBigSwitch says that the average cost of a night out for a couple with kids is €130 and without kids €80.

That is compared to €39 in Bulgaria and €165 in Luxembourg.

The index surveyed the cost of tickets to the cinema (which it put at €18), dinner for two (€54), a babysitter (€50) and a bottle of wine (€8).

OneBigSwitch’s Sarah Ryan says that with Valentine’s looming, consumers should shop around.

Alternatively, you could guilt a family member into minding the kids for free and eat fast food. Which may not be too romantic, but it’s cheap.
