THE CRAZY, RECKLESS dream of Miami Vice turning heads in Major League Soccer is close to becoming a reality.

According to a report in Florida newspaper Palm Beach Post [hat tip to Business Insider], David Beckham’s new MLS franchise could be named after the 1980s TV detective series. Beckham’s delegation included the name, as well as jersey designs and team logos as part of presentations made to the City of Miami, Miami-Dade County and potential investors.

According to the newspaper, “One of the logos used in the Beckham group’s presentations, for a team called “Miami Vice,” includes dark gray and aqua colors, with soft pink accents. The letters ‘M’ and ‘V’ form a badge, with an upward-struck soccer ball in the foreground. The kit features an aqua shirt and dark gray shorts with soft pink stripes.”

Beckham made the announcement, on 5 February, that Miami would soon have their first MLS team since 2001. Speaking on the MLS website, the former Manchester United and England midfielder commented, “We do have ideas for a team name. I’m sure people would have liked me to stood on the stage today and say, ‘This is the name, [these] are the colours, but I want it to be right. I know how important a name is to a city and to the fans.”

The other name used in the presentations was Miami Current. A third, as yet undisclosed name, was linked to a potential corporate sponsorship deal.
