Daytona 500: Racer tweets from the driver's seat after crash

Nascar just got interesting.

TWITTER, IT WOULD seem, has finally pervaded the last realm of sport.

NASCAR driver, Brad Keselowski, managed to (presumably) slip off his driving gloves and rattle off a couple of quickfire tweets before the race had even finished.

The Daytona 500 was last night temporarily delayed by a red flag after Juan Montoya’s crash into a truck.

The safety vehicle had been high, drying the edge of the track when Montoya lost control and slid into it, igniting a fireball. Montoya and the driver of the truck were reportedly fine despite the wreck.

The race was under a red flag for close on two hours and all the while, Keselowski was engaging America through social media.

Keselowski tripled his number of followers in the process, going from approximately 65,000 before the race to nearly 200,000 as the race got ready to resume.

It must be stressed, that the cars were stopped while the driver was typing. You can read, Keselowski’s full feed of Tweets from last night here, but suffice to say we now have some reason to tune into Nascar other than just the prospect of a crash.

Speaking of which, you didn’t think we would mention the word ‘fireball’ and not back it up with some nice footage, now did you?
