Lucky 13: Questions for Limerick hurler Declan Hannon

Hannon plays for Limerick against Tipperary today in the Gaelic Grounds.

HE’S ONE OF the brightest prospects in Limerick hurling.

He starred in the underage ranks for his county and impressed at schools level for Ardscoil Rís.

Last Friday week he captained Limerick in the Bord Gáis Energy Munster U21 hurling championship when they lost out to Tipperary.

And Declan Hannon will be in action for Limerick against Tipperary in the Munster senior hurling championship.

But we wanted to know other stuff about the Limerick hurler.

Like his hurling hero growing up.

His favourite app on his smartphone.

And what three celebrities would he like to have dinner with?

**********

13. What’s your favourite sport other than hurling?

Horse Racing, particularly National Hunt I’d be big into.

12. Who’s the most entertaining person you follow on Twitter?

The Ken Barlow parody account is good. David Haye is good enough to follow as well and then Ruby Walsh and Davy Russell from the horse racing side of it.

11.  Do you have any pre-match superstitions?

No none.

10. What was the last film you saw?

The Hangover III. It’s a good old film now, not too bad.

9. What TV programme do you always Sky Plus?

I don’t have Sky Plus but I’d watch Revenge the most.

8. What star from other sports do you most admire?

I suppose Tony McCoy from horse racing. Other than that it’d be Steven Gerrard for what he has done in soccer.

7. What’s the most memorable game you’ve played for your club?

The 2009 Munster club hurling semi-final against Newtownshandrum in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. (Hannon scored 1-13 out of Adare’s 1-14 and he was only 16 at the time).

6. What’s the most memorable game you’ve played for your county?
The Munster U21 final in 2011. We beat Cork (4-20 to 1-27) after extra-time and it was a great win. I’d have to go for that.

5. What’s your favourite app on your smartphone?

Paddy Power to check out the horses.

4. Name the sporting event you’d most like to attend in the world?

The Cheltenham Festival would be brilliant to be at.

3. What was the first inter-county senior game you ever went to?

I was below in Cork in 2001 when Limerick beat Cork by a point in Páirc Uí Chaoimh in the Munster championship. Barry Foley scored a sideline point to win it. Diarmuid O’Sullivan got a point from about 100 yards the same day.

2. If you could have dinner with any three celebrities alive or dead, who would they be?

Taylor Swift, JP McManus and Louise Cantillon.

1. Who was your hurling hero growing up?

Even though I’m a Limerick man, it was a Clare man in Anthony Daly.
