Division 3 & 4 football league round-up

Meath, Limerick and Offaly triumphed today while Sligo and Cavan drew as did Antrim and Wicklow.

Division 3 FL

Sligo 2-9
Cavan 1-12

EUGENE KEATING’S LATE goal helped Cavan to a draw against Sligo this afternoon in Markievicz Park.

Sligo let a five-point lead slip away as Barry Reilly notched a brace of points and Keating hit the net to ensure the teams were tied at the finish.

Sligo began strongly with Shane McManus striking a goal that helped them move ahead by 1-5 to 0-2 before a string of Cavan points narrowed the gap to two at the break.

A Stephen Gilmartin goal gave Sligo a further boost in the second-half but Keating found the net late on for the critical score.

Roscommon 0-12

Goals from Kevin Reilly and Graham Reilly helped Meath claim a vital two-point success against Roscommon in Dr Hyde Park.

The green flags were raised in the opening period as Meath moved into a 2-6 to 0-3 lead by the break.

Roscommon fought back in the second-half yet Cian Ward’s marksmanship helped the Royals run out victors.

Antrim 1-10
Wicklow 2-7

A tempestuous clash in Aughrim finished all square as 12-man Wicklow managed to claim a point on home soil.

Stephen Byrne, Darren Hayden and Dean Healy were all sent off for  Wicklow while Michael Herron was dismissed for Antrim.

The teams were tied at 0-4 apiece at the break before Jack Dalton found the net soon after for Wicklow.

Antrim responded when Tomas McCann fired home a penalty but Wicklow managed to grab a draw courtesy of an Anthony McLoughlin goal.

Limerick 0-10
Carlow 0-9

Limerick remain top of the Division 4 table after a narrow success over Carlow this afternoon in the Gaelic Grounds.

The Shannonsiders claimed their fourth successive win despite trailing at half-time by 0-7 to 0-5.

Darragh Foley was on fire up front for Carlow while Ian Ryan pointed the way for Limerick.

A Martin Doyle point edged Carlow ahead 0-9 to 0-7 by the 50th minute before three late points from Ian Ryan clinched the spoils for Limerick.

Leitrim 0-8

Offaly claimed an important win away from home against Leitrim this afternoon in Carrick-on-Shannon.

Brian Darby hit the injury-time winner for the Faithful against a Leitrim team who were lead by their captain Emlyn Mulligan up front as he struck 0-5.

Leitrim lead 0-4 to 0-3 at the interval but in a tight second-half Brian Connor and Niall McNamee grabbed some important points for Emmett McDonnell’s side as they prevailed.

Both teams finished the game with 14 men after Offaly’s Peter Cunningham and Leitrim’s Gerry Hickey were dismissed.
