Doni to sit out Wembley trip as Liverpool appeal dismissed

The Brazilian was sent off after felling Blackburn striker Yakubu in the box during Tuesday’s 3-2.

LIVERPOOL GOALKEEPER Alexander Doni will miss the FA Cup semi-final with Everton after an appeal against his red card was rejected today.

The Brazilian was dismissed after felling Blackburn striker Yakubu in the box during Tuesday’s 3-2 win in the Premier League. Replacement Brad Jones came on and saved the subsequent spot-kick.

A statement on the Football Association’s website read: “Liverpool goalkeeper Alexander Doni will serve a one-match suspension with immediate effect after his appeal for wrongful dismissal was rejected.”

Doni was sent off during his side’s match at Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday 10 April for denying an obvious goalscoring opportunity.

“A Regulatory Commission heard the claim today (Thursday 12 April) and the suspension remains.”

The Reds had attempted to loan a new goalkeeper on emergency terms, but when that was rejected, recalled Peter Gulacsi from a loan spell at Hull City to provide cover for Jones on Saturday.
