Down starlet Mooney looking forward to life down under

Eighteen-year-old set to complete his move to Collingwood next Wednesday.

ONE OF DOWN’S brightest footballing prospects, 18-year-old Caolan Mooney, is ready to meet the challenges of life in the AFL when he moves to Aussie Rules outfit Collingwood next week.

In an interview with Neil Loughran in the Irish Daily News (print edition), Mooney — who featured in all of the Mournemen’s All-Ireland qualifiers this year — revealed that he was originally due to fly out to Australia in early June, but delayed his departure when it became clear that he would be handed a break with the senior panel.

The Rostrevor youngster also said that he’d love to wear the red and black of Down again in the future, but for now he is fully focused on making his mark in Melbourne, where he may soon be joined by inter-county team-mate Martin Clarke.
