Drogheda appoint Johnny McDonnell-Mark Kinsella management team

Roy Keane is not the only Ireland player-turned-assistant making the news today.

DROGHEDA UNITED HAVE tonight confirmed Johnny McDonnell as their new manager, while ex-Ireland international Mark Kinsella will be his assistant.

Shelbourne had earlier announced McDonnell’s resignation as manager of the Tolka Park club.

A statement issued by Drogheda this evening reads as follows: “Drogheda United are delighted to confirm Johnny McDonnell as the club’s new manager.

“The former Shelbourne manager will be joined by Mark Kinsella who will serve as his assistant.

“Supporters will be able to meet McDonnell tomorrow as he will be at the Drogs Shop in Scotch Hall between 2-5 as part of the club’s new home jersey launch.”

The team have been searching for a new boss ever since Damien Richardson stepped down amid uncertainty about the club’s financial situation.

Richardson had guided the club to a ninth-place finish in their most recent Airtricity League campaign.
