Drought forces town to recycle urine

A Texan town has been hit so hard by drought that it will begin recycling treated effluent and turning it into drinking water.

DROUGHT HAS HIT a Texan town so hard that it has been left with one option: recyle the locals’ urine.

Discovery News reports that municipal water managers in Big Spring, Texas, have decided to take treated effluent and blend it with ‘normal’ water.

This ‘speeds up’ the normal system when the discharged water flows through wetlands.

Less than 0.1 inches of rain has fallen on West Texas in recent months – far below the typical 7 inches it usually gets at this time of year.

Terri Telchick, who works for the city manager in Big Spring, said talk of the ‘toilet-to-tank’ process tends to get people “nervous and grossed out”.
