The hurlers put on an exhibition but Jim Gavin’s side went to the wire.

THE HURLERS AND FOOTBALLERS of Dublin shook off the festive cobwebs for the annual Blue Stars challenge matches.

The action took place in Blakestown and was hosted by St Peregrines GAA, with the hurlers up first, shortly after midday.

Paul Ryan of Dublin helped himself to a hat-trick as the Blue Stars were soundly beaten 7-13 to 0-08.

Jim Gavin, the new Dublin Football manager, saw his side go in 0-06 to 1-04 at half-time before they upped their intensity in the second half to emerge 0-16 to 1-11 winners.
