REIGNING ALL-IRELAND club champions Cuala will take on St Vincent’s at the semi-final stage of the Dublin senior hurling championship after this evening’s draw.
The other last four clash will see 2014 kingpins Kilmacud Crokes meet Lucan Sarsfields after the completion of the quarter-final action today.
Cuala booked their spot in the last four at O’Toole Park with a 3-14 to 2-15 success over St Brigid’s. Con O’Callaghan fired home two first-half goals for Cuala, who lead 2-6 to 1-8 at the interval with Cian O’Sullivan netting for St Brigid’s.
The action ebbed and flowed in the second half with David Treacy seeing his penalty for Cuala saved by Alan Nolan before his younger brother Sean did grab Cuala’s third goal. A late consolation goal for St Brigid’s couldn’t prevent Cuala advancing.
The curtain-raiser at that venue saw Lucan Sarsfields knock out Ballyboden St-Enda’s with a 2-12 to 0-16 victory, as Matt McCaffrey and CJ Smith raised green flags for the winners.
In Parnell Park, Kilmacud Crokes finished strongly to grind out a 0-17 to 0-15 victory against Na Fianna as substitutes Alex Considine and Ronan Hayes struck the last two points of the game.
St Vincent’s had seven points to spare in their 2-14 to 1-10 success over Craobh Chiaráin. Conor Burke and Cian McBride scored the goals for the winners while Dublin senior football star Diarmuid Connolly bagged 0-4.
In Kilkenny, the senior hurling semi-final pairings are now known after yesterday’s quarter-final replay victories for Ballyhale Shamrocks, Dicksboro and James Stephens.
Kilkennny’s three city hurling clubs along with Ballyhale Shamrocks are now in the running for the 2017 crown. Defending champions O’Loughlin Gaels will meet Dicksboro in a local derby and it’s a repeat of the 2011 final as Ballyhale Shamrocks take on James Stephens.
In Wexford, Oulart-the-Ballagh remain on course for three-in-a-row after their 2-18 to 0-18 semi-final success over Rapparees. The decider will be a repeat of 2015 after St Martin’s won the other semi-final today by 2-18 to 1-14 against Naomh Eanna.
Finally today in Ulster, the senior club hurling decider will see Derry’s Slaughtneil take on Down’s Ballygalget. Reigning champions Slaughtneil have kept their provincial double dream alive for another season after their 1-18 to 2-8 semi-final success against Antrim’s Dunloy.
Ballygalget trounced Fermanagh’s Lisbellaw by 24 points in the other semi-final tie in Ulster.
