Dublin draw with Tipperary in camogie league as Wexford, Limerick and Kilkenny are victorious

Check out how all of today’s action unfolded.

DUBLIN LEFT IT late but hit six unanswered points to snatch a 1-15 to 4-6 draw against Tipperary in Group 2 of Division 1 of the Camogie League today.

Ciara Berkeley grabbed the all important equalising score but there were a number of players who stood up when their team needed them most.

Dublin held a slender 1-5 to 1-4 lead at the half time break after Áine Fanning responded to Aoife McGrath’s early Tipp goal.

Tipperary took charge in the early part of the second half and seemed to heading towards victory when Amy Kennedy (2) and Nicole Walsh struck goals. Walsh’s performance was top class and that goal was part of a final 1-4 tally but Berkeley and Dublin struck late to spoil their day.

Ciara O’Neill, Miriam Twomey and Elaine O’Meara were others to impress for Dublin while Cait Devane, Aoife McGrath and Sabrina Larkin were the pick for the Premier County.

Elsewhere in Group 2, Wexford were victorious over Offaly in Birr by 2-8 to 0-6. Wexford used a decent wind at their backs to move into a 1-6 to 0-5 lead with Brid Gordon scoring their goal after 14 minutes.

Offaly would have been reasonably pleased with turning around at the half time break just four points down but they found the resolute Wexford defence, where Mary Lacey was superb at centre back, a tough nut to crack in the second half. Wexford were just physically stronger than their opponents and the Offaly forwards struggled to have any impact on the game in the second half.

A Michaela Morkan point was all they had to show for their efforts after the break and an Ursula Jacob goal put the result beyond doubt when she shot to the back of the net in injury time.

Group 1

Limerick gained some kind of revenge over Galway for defeat in last year’s All-Ireland intermediate final with a 2-10 to 1-9 win in Kilmallock.

Nine players on the Limerick team started that final and they were full value for their win.

The game was something of slow burner and it was just 0-1 each after 15 minutes. Galway then found their scoring range and rattled off five points in a row. However, Limerick responded in style and Mairead Fitzgerald goal followed by two points from the Niamh Mulcahy meant the teams were level at the break.

The opening 15 minutes of the second half were similar to the first with little to choose between the sides and it was all to play for heading into the final quarter. A superb goal from a tight angle by Muireann Creamer in the 52nd proved crucial though and Mulcahy added three further points on her way to a tally of eight in the final minutes.

Emer Haverty pulled a late goal back for Galway but it was scant consolation. It was an excellent team display for Limerick but Mulcahy, Fitzgerald and Sarah Carey were really to the fore.

In Dunganny, Lydia Fitzpatrick, Miriam Walsh and Kelly Hamilton scored the goals as Kilkenny recorded a 3-18 to 1-4 win over Derry.
