MANDATE TRADE UNION members at Dunnes Stores are to discuss tomorrow how they will proceed with their industrial action over pay and contracts.
Mandate Trade Union General Secretary John Douglas said that a meeting of the disputes committee will take place tomorrow.
He also indicated that if workers strike again, it could be longer than one day – but it will be up to the workers.
Speaking on RTÉ’s This Week programme, he said:
We will hopefully at that stage have compiled a dossier of incidents of victimisation and intimidation which happened immediately prior to the strike.
He said the trade union believed there were a dozen staff targeted the day after the dispute, including people moved from the cash office to the grocery tills.
Dunnes Stores has declined to comment publicly on the dispute.
Pay and contracts
“This is about decent jobs and decent contracts,” said Douglas.
He said they are fighting for “decent jobs, a future, and a decent living wage”.
After a one-day strike on 2 April, Mandate said that some employees were let go by Dunnes Stores.
The strikes came after months of unrest, with workers demanding the implementation of banded-hour contracts, fair pay, a review of the use of temporary contracts, and the right to union representation.
TheJournal.ie requested a comment from Dunnes Stores following the revelations last week, but has received no response.
