'Keane has lost the plot. He should respect Irish fans' - Dunphy

The RTE pundit says Roy Keane’s criticism of supporters in Gdansk was “disgraceful” and “unfair”.

IN RESPONSE TO comments Roy Keane made last night in relation to the Irish team and their fans, football pundit and Betfair expert Eamon Dunphy has hit back, calling the remarks “disgraceful”.

“The fans are the people who generate the money, interest and the passion to pay Roy Keane’s wages for a very long time,” Dunphy said.

“To turn on them like that was very wrong at that moment. They were making the best of a bad situation. To say the Irish just want to party and sing songs is an unfair characterisation of Irish people.

I think they’ve been brilliant in the way they accepted defeated and made the best of standing in the rain watching their country being destroyed after paying big money to go there.

“Those people deserve to be respected and celebrated – not attacked by Roy Keane.”
