Bad news for Ireland as Edin Dzeko conjured his best performance of the season tonight

Another Bosnian – Miralem Pjanic – grabbed the winner for Roma in a 3-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen.

BOSNIA’S MAIN GOAL threat Edin Dzeko has been in the midst of a slump recently, without a goal for Roma since 30th August.

But this evening, and quite ominously for the Republic of Ireland (who face Dzeko and co in a Euro 2016 play-off next week), he conjured an eye-catching performance for the Italian side in their Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen.

After two minutes, he set up Mohamed Salah for the game’s first goal, turning in midfield and slipping a perfectly-weighted pass through for the former Chelsea man.

On the half hour, Dzeko had his own goal, racing onto Radja Nainggolan’s pass and dispatching beyond Bernd Leno for his first Champions League goal.

To their credit, the German side got back in the game and scored twice in the opening five minutes of the second half to draw level.

Admir Mehmedi got them going before Javier Hernandez grabbed a splendid equaliser.

But, it was another Bosnian – Miralem Pjanic – who was the hero when he scored from an 81st-minute penalty to hand Roma a 3-2 victory.
