1. #CHARGES: An internal Labour memo outlining the rationale for water charges and how they could be imposed was circulated to Joan Burton, Eamon Gilmore and senior party advisers five years ago, TheJournal.ie can reveal. The party opposed the introduction of such charges in the 2011 general election.

2. #BANK GUARANTEE: A confidential 2008 report into Ireland’s banking system revealed that 22 men owed €25.5 billion to their banks, the Sunday Business Post reports. It estimated that – at worse – banks would lose €10.6 billion, far off the final figure figure of €64 billion.

3. #CYCLONE PAM: AFP reports that a state of emergency has been declared on the South Pacific island of Vanuatu amid reports entire villages were “blown away” when a monster storm swept through.

6. #ADVISER: Patricia Ryan, who resigned as CEO of the Limerick City of Culture Project last year, has been appointed as Minister Kathleen Lynch’s special adviser, the Irish Mail on Sunday reports. TDs have expressed their anger at the move.

7. #LEGAL HIGHS: New psychoactive drugs are being detected in Europe at a rate of two per week, new data from the EU drugs agency has revealed.

8. #ATTACKS: The Vatican has said that if no political solution is found to stop the advance of Islamic State, force may need to be used to protect religious minorities, BBC News reports.

9. #COOLA BOOLA: Love/Hate is moving to warmer climes, with the Sunday Times reporting that an American version of the series is planned, set on the island of Hawaii.
