End game: Cork accept Preston's bid for Cummins

Preston North End’s undisclosed bid for striker Graham Cummins has been accepted, Cork City confirmed today.

GRAHAM CUMMINS LOOKS set to become the latest Airtricity League player to make the switch cross-channel after Cork City confirmed that they have “reluctantly accepted” a bid from Preston North End.

Cummins is expected in England later today to discuss personal terms with Preston, who have agreed an undisclosed sum to take the 24-year-old striker to Deepdale.

A move would come as a blow to City and manager Tommy Dunne, who would need to replace the club’s main goal threat before the Premier Division season begins on 2 March.

Cummins finished last season as the First Division’s top scorer, including a dramatic 94th-minute winner in the final game against Shelbourne to ensure that Cork were promoted as champions.

A native of Cork, Cummins started his senior career with Cobh Ramblers and Waterford United before moving to Turner’s Cross in March 2010. He quickly became a fan favourite, winning the First Division Player of the Year award in both 2010 and 2011.

“The club do not wish to comment further on the matter at this time,” Cork’s statement said this afternoon.

Preston are currently 13th in League One, nine points outside the promotion play-off places.
