Wayne Rooney left on the bench as England make 6 changes for final group game

The skipper is rested.

ROY HODGSON HAS rung the changes for England’s final Group B clash with Slovakia this evening with captain Wayne Rooney left on the bench.

The England manager makes six changes to his XI for tonight’s game in Saint-Etienne.

As was reported earlier in the day, Rooney is rested with Jordan Henderson coming in and the captain’s armband handed to Gary Cahill.

Tottenham quartet Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Kyle Walker and Danny Rose all make way, as does Raheem Sterling after two uninspiring performances.

The goalscorers against Wales – Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy – are given their chance from the off as well as Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere.

England go into the fixture knowing a point will secure their place in the next round but they may still progress even with defeat tonight.

They cannot finish any lower than third in the group and the four points already on the board should be enough to qualify as one of the best third-placed sides.

Slovakia: Kozacik; Pekarik, Skrtel, Durica, Hubocan; Pecovsky, Hamsik, Kucka; Weiss, Mak, Duda.

England: Hart; Clyne, Smalling, Cahill, Bertrand; Henderson, Dier, Wilshere; Lallana, Vardy, Sturridge.

Meanwhile, Wales have made just one change to their side from the defeat to England last Thursday.

Sam Vokes replaces Hal Robson-Kanu in Chris Coleman’s side for their clash with Russia.

Both games kick-off at 8pm and you can follow all the action with our live matchtracker here.

Wales: Hennessey; Gunter, Chester, Williams, Davies, Taylor; Allen, Ledley, Ramsey; Bale; Vokes.
