Starting 11: Questions for Cork footballer Eoin Cadogan

The Cork footballer is in action against Clare in Ennis today.

HE’S A KEY member of the Cork senior football side.

And up until last year he was also a dual star as he lined out for the Cork senior hurlers.

This afternoon his focus will be on Cusack Park in Ennis as Cork get set to face  Clare in the Munster senior football championship semi-final.

But we wanted to know other stuff about Cork player Eoin Cadogan.

Like his GAA hero growing up.

His favourite app on his smartphone.

And what three celebrities would he like to have dinner with?

**********

11. Who was your GAA hero growing up?

“Brian Corcoran or Sean Óg Ó hAilpín. It was because they were dual players in a way but also from a hurling point of view, they shone when they played. They were leaders when you needed them like when it came to plucking a ball down out of the sky.”

10. If you had €2.50 going into a supermarket, what would you buy?

“I’d say a Magnum.”

9. What’s your favourite sport other than GAA?

“I enjoy the rugby, especially the Heineken Cup. I’d have a big interest in Munster to see how they do, the Clermont game recently was incredible to watch.”

8. What’s the most memorable game you’ve played for your club?

“We beat Ballyhea with my club Douglas in an U12 county final. James Moylan, a brother of Stephen who plays for the Cork senior hurlers, came from centre-back to full-forward and scored three goals in the last couple of minutes. We won by a couple of points then, it was unbelievable. That’d be something that sticks in my head.

7. What was the first inter-county senior game you can remember being at?

“The one that sticks out in my head is the 1999 All-Ireland final in the rain in Croke Park against Kilkenny. I was at games Cork played in before that but it’s one that I remember most. I was in the Hogan Stand and it was pouring rain. It was an unbelievable game, electric stuff and Cork won.”

6. Do you’ve any pre-match superstitions?

“I sit in one seat travelling up the night before on the bus and I sit on a seperate seat then going to the game. I just try to keep to them.”

5. What was the last film you saw?

“The Place Beyond The Pines. It’s good, I really enjoyed it. I thought Ryan Gosling was great in it.”

4. Name the sporting event you’d most like to attend in the world?

“A Rugby World Cup final or a Lions test. Either of those would be great to be at. I’ll watch a lot of the Lions this summer.”

3. What star from other sports do you most admire?

“I seriously like Conor McGregor the MMA guy. I’ve done a small bit of it myself. I just think he expresses himself totally. He mightn’t necessarily give nice answers that people want but that’s something you’d have to respect.

“From a Cork point of view it’d be Ronan O’Gara. He’s another guy that isn’t afraid to rustle any feathers, he says it the way it is and you’d have to have huge respect for him in that way.”

2. Who is the toughest opponent that you have ever marked?

“Colm O’Neill of Cork. He’s a nightmare to mark in training when he’s in corner-forward. His movement is excellent and if he gets any sniff of goal, he goes for it.”

1. If you could have dinner with any three celebrities alive or dead, who would they be?

“Roy Keane, Ronan O’Gara and the last one, we’ll go for Brian O’Driscoll.”
