• Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has been criticised by Fianna Fáil TD Timmy Dooley for avoiding a men-only dinner in Savannah, Georgia as part of his trip to the US to mark St Patrick’s Day.
• Cyprus is to get an EU/IMF bailout, just like Ireland. But unlike Ireland, the troubled country will be enforcing losses on bank depositors some of whom will see a ten per cent levy placed on their deposits in Cypriot banks.
• There have been celebrations around the world to mark St Patrick’s Weekend with dozens of famous landmarks ‘going green’ while Taoiseach Enda Kenny has been giving New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg a teapot.
• As he got his first weekend as Pope under way, Pope Francis gave a special audience to journalists at the Vatican today giving a unique and rare insight into what happened at the conclave of cardinals which elected him this week.
• Bad news for the government this evening as a new opinion poll shows that three quarters of voters are dissatisfied with its performance. There is good news for Fianna Fáil though.
• Ireland’s Six Nations campaign came to miserable end in Rome today as they were beaten by Italy to leave Declan Kidney’s side with just one win from their five matches. What now for the Irish head coach?
