2,000 pairs of fake Nike runners seized in Cork

The runners came from China and are believed to have been destined for the Christmas market in Ireland.

MORE THAN 2,000 pairs of counterfeit Nike runners with an estimated value of €292,000 have been seized by Revenue officers in Cork.

The counterfeit runners were discovered in a container which had come from China and which were believed to have been destined for the Christmas market in Ireland. The trainers were in a variety of colours and styles.

Revenue said that the runners were discovered as a result of routine profiling.

In a statement, Revenue said that counterfeit goods are “damaging to legitimate businesses and… can pose serious health and safety risks to consumers” because of the lack of regulation in the way they are made.
