Diary of a Fantasy Gaffer: Suffering from a bad case of Fantasy FOMO

We’ve had a long international break to think about our fantasy football failures — now we need your help.

“I check my look in the mirror, I wanna change my clothes, my hair, my face.”

SOMETIMES THE BOSS just gets an urge to change everything. It happened to Springsteen and, this week, it very nearly happened with this fantasy football team.

If you take a step back, TheScore Machine has been doing quite well for the last few weeks. After a slow start, we got some momentum with three big weeks in a row and jumped over a million places in the overall standings.

Still, when you have more than 400,000 players ahead of you, it’s hard not to get a little bit frustrated.

Before the international break we had a bit of a disaster, scoring just 39 points in Gameweek 7. While Ireland were getting played off the park in Cologne and Noel King was losing his rag with Dunphy, that disappointment festered.

This seemed to be the perfect time to change things around, rip it up and start again, but before my big black and white paw could press the “use wildcard” button I changed my mind again.

It’s not that I’m happy — far from it — but I’m struggling with all the classic symptoms of FOMO: Fear of Missing Out.

They haven’t set the world alight so far but Silva, Soldado and van Persie could have monster weeks at any time. After persevering for so long, it seems certain that as soon as they’re dropped, that’s when they will explode to life.

So no, they stay, and only a fool would drop Yaya, Ramsey or Olly Giroud Giroud this week. Our defenders face tough matchups this week so it’s those three who will need to carry us again.

Suarez, Oscar and Aguero were all considered at different times this week but for now, it stays the same.

Well, almost the same. Ravel Morrison is scoring worldies for fun at the moment so he could be a bargain at £4.4m. Hopefully the Man City defence will be in a generous mood tomorrow evening…

Please, please help us! Who needs to go before next week? Who should we bring in? All advice gratefully accepted!
