Poll Position

Fianna Fáil is more popular than Sinn Féin in a new opinion poll

For the first time in over a year, the Soldiers of Destiny are above 20% support.

WITH LESS THAN 12 months until an expected general election, Fianna Fáil have overhauled Sinn Féin as the second most popular party in the country.

That is according to a new Sunday Times/Behaviour and Attitudes poll to be published tomorrow.

For the first time in over a year, the Soldiers of Destiny are above 20% support, sitting at 21%, a gain of four percentage points. That gain comes at the expense of Fine Gael, who are down three percentage points to 24%.

Labour climb by one to 9%, while Sinn Féin drop the same amount to 19%.

Independents and others have also fallen by one point to 28%.

All of the results are counted when undecided voters are excluded and reflect 900 interviews carried out face-to-face in the days between 5 June and 15 June.

The poll will be pleasant reading for Micheal Martin. After a turbulent month, not only is his party within the margin of error (+/- 3.3%) of Fine Gael, he is the leader the country is most satisfied with.

He has a 40% approval rating, while Joan Burton is on 36%, Gerry Adams and Eamon Ryan are on 32% and Taoiseach Enda Kenny is on 28%.
