Meanwhile, fellow Irish athlete Ciara Everard came sixth in the 800m final earlier today.

IRELAND’S FIONNUALA BRITTON has exceeded expectations by taking a bronze in the 3000m final at the European Indoor Athletic Championships in Gothenburg today.

She finished third with a time of 9:00.54, narrowly missing out on a silver medal, which was claimed by Germany’s Corinna Harrer in 9:00.50.

Portugal’s Sara Moreira ultimately won the race, with an impressive time of 8:58.50.

Speaking following her medal-winning performance, Britton said:

“For the last 400m, I was like ‘I’m not coming fourth again. Then at the finish I didn’t even know. ‘I was thinking am I second? Am I fourth?’ I really enjoyed it.”

Meanwhile, fellow Irish athlete Ciara Everard came sixth in the 800m final earlier today.

She finished with a time of 2:02.55, which was just a hundreth of a second off her personal best.

Amy Foster races in the semi-finals of the 60m at 3.30pm today.
