LOUTH MANAGER PETER FITZPATRICK will speak with his team of selectors at the end of the week before deciding whether or not to stay on in the role.
The Wee County boss is aware that a decision needs to be made soon in order to best prepare the team for another season in Division Two in 2013.
“I’m going to sit down with the selection team this week and discuss everything – but it will be decided in the next two weeks,” he told the Dundalk Democrat.
“It’s important that who ever is in charge, whether it is myself or someone else, can get out to see the championship games in the next few weeks and see what they have to work with.”
Fitzpatrick’s three-year contract with the Louth footballers – who exited the qualifiers with a defeat to Westmeath two weeks ago – has expired, although it is presumed that he will have the full backing of the County Board if he does decide to stay on.
However, he was quick to stress the pressures associated with the role.
“It’s a seven days a week job and it takes a big big commitment. I’ll have to reflect on my own situation and make a decision.”
Fitzpatrick revealed that he has the support of his players, some of whom have made contact in the hope that he will remain in situ.
“I’ve received phone calls from certain players and it is great to know there is support there.”
