Five Steps to Heaven: because this tenner is burning a hole in our pocket

We’ve decided to play it safe(ish) this week, for what it’s worth.

YEAH YEAH YEAH – we know that our weekly gambling advice column is always a miserable failure, but that’s not going to stop us from wasting this week’s bus fare.

One of these weeks, our five-timer is bound to come up. You can expect us to notify you when that happens.

1. Let’s start with this evening’s Magners League action which sees Aironi travel to Scotland to take on Edinburgh.

The Italians may be rooted to the bottom of the pile but they were only beaten by a single point the last time the sides met back in October. Call us foolish but we’ll take Aironi (+12) at 10/11.

2. Hands up if you’re looking forward to Ireland’s equivalent of El Clasicochampions Shamrock Rovers travel to Dalymount Park to take on Dublin rivals Bohemians later on tonight.

A win for Rovers will see them extend their lead at the top of the table while three points for Bohs will see them leap to the top of the pile. With that in mind, we’re backing a draw at 11/5.

3. We might not be able to watch on it Sky Sports but we’ll be looking out for a dodgy Latvian stream tomorrow night when Derry’s Paul McCloskey crosses the Irish Sea to take on Amir Khan in Manchester.

To be honest, we’ve a sneaky suspicion that Paulie might just have enough to nick it, but for betting purposes we’ll go with head over heart and back Khan to win on points at 10/3.

4. Before that, we’ll be sitting down to watch the first games of the NBA Playoffs as Eastern Conference number one seeds Chicago Bulls take on the Indiana Pacers.

The Bulls to win (-11.5) is currently 10/11, which represents decent value considering Chicago have already beaten their opponents by more than that margin on three occasions this season.

5. The weekend won’t be over until we’ve had a chance to watch the final round of games in the Allianz National Hurling League – if it’s anything like last weekend, we’re in for a treat.

Dublin need to beat Cork to have any chance of progressing to the Division 1 final, and we reckon they might just manage to pull it off. The Dubs to beat Cork at 6/4 is our final selection for this week.
