Five steps to heaven: turn your tenner into twenty grand

We’ve had a good feeling about these bets all week. Now it’s time to put our money where our mouth is.

WE’RE WELL AWARE that our weekly gambling feature has failed to show any real signs of progess in recent weeks. You can ignore our advice at any time, you know.

Before you do anything rash, we’d advise you take a look at this week’s tips. Let’s just say we’re quietly confident.

1. After sitting out the first two games of Ireland’s Six Nations campaign, Tommy Bowe makes his return for Sunday’s game against Scotland. The Monaghan man is currently available at 8/1 to be Ireland’s first try-scorer.

If you don’t agree that Tommy is the man, take a look at his two-try performance in Twickenham last year. Easy money.

2. As the rugby winds to a close on Sunday, Arsenal and Birmingham will take to the Wembley turf to contest this year’s Carling Cup Final.

We feel confident in our prediction that the game will either be absolutely brilliant or mind-numbingly dull. Either way, we’ve gone for a draw after 90 minutes at odds of 3/1.

3. Hype? What hype? Nobody in this office has spent the whole week bigging up the Dubs’ All-Ireland credentials. Honestly.

Kerry have failed to impress so far, needing a dodgy peno to see them by Mayo last weekend. We reckon that Dublin are good for a 4 to 7 point victory, currently available at odds of 9/2.

4. There’s still a long way to go, but Graeme McDowell is in good shape at the WGC-Accenture World Matchplay Championship.

If he can beat Y.E. Yang and then either Rickie Fowler or Matt Kuchar, G-Mac will claim a place in the final four. After that, who knows what might happen.

He’s 13/2 to win the tournament outright.

5. The Cricket World Cup has become very interesting all of a sudden. As we write, Ireland are struggling to chase down a total of 206 against Bangladesh. Hope springs eternal.

Sunday’s cricketing entertainment is a real clash of the titans as England take on pre-tournament favourites India. England were massively disappointing against the Netherlands on Tuesday, while Virender Sehwag’s 175 against Bangladesh got India’s campaign off to a flying start.

Unsurprisingly, we’ve gone for India to beat England at 4/9. Banker.
