Plane makes emergency landing in Belfast after engine catches fire

No passengers were injured.

A PLANE MADE an emergency landing at Belfast International Airport last night after an engine caught fire.

Emergency services attended the scene as a precautionary measure, but the fire had been extinguished before the plane landed.

The FlyBe flight was travellingfrom Glasgow to Belfast City.

No passengers were injured, the airline said in a statement, and added that it was a small fire.

“At no time was the safety and wellbeing of passengers compromised,” the statement added.

“Flybe operates its fleet of aircraft in strict compliance with all manufacturers guidelines.”

Passengers on the flight told BBC News that those on board became panicked with the engine caught fire, but praised the pilot for calming passengers down and landing the plane successfully.

One said the flight flew into Belfast on one engine, while sparks were still visible from the extinguished fire.

Another told BBC Radio Foyle that some passengers had to jump several feet from the plane once it was landed as there was no escape chute.
