FOTA WILDLIFE PARK is hoping the first part of a new €6 million development will attract thousands of visitors this summer.
The new Tiger Forest is close to the Fota Island golf course, where 100,000 people will descend for the Irish Open between the 19 and 22 June.
The area will house two Sumatran tigers, both two-years-old – Denar from Warsaw Zoo and Dourga from Le Parc des Félins in Nesles, France.
There are just 500 of these animals left in the wild.
The park’s new Asian Sanctuary will continue to expand, with animals already at the zoo such as the red panda and lion-tailed macaques being moved to the new enclosures, and the introduction of species like the Visayan spotted deer.
It will open be open to the public tomorrow.
“The opening this weekend is not only an exciting time for us,” Stephen Ryan Head of Marketing for Fota Wildlife Park said, “but we feel it is of huge benefit to the region as we open the first piece of a €6m development that we hope will turn the park into an iconic visitor attraction.”
