On The Record

It has to be stressed that it’s an independent review. A branding expert came in to have a look at the league’s brand and that’s what it is. There are some interesting things there and it is a small piece of where we are trying to go with the league. We have a marketing executive coming in, which is a big thing for us as well, but this is someone looking at it from a different point of view. Look at it, there are lots and lot of ideas but none of them are set in stone. This is Jonathan’s opinion on where he sees it”.

There was lots of criticism surrounding Jonathan Gabay‘s report on branding the League of Ireland but FAI Director of Competitions Fran Gavin was quick to put some distance between it and the organisation actually implementing the suggested ideas.

He looked sufficiently traumatised by the experience. The last time he’d been around so much peroxide and bad hair was when David Beckham was still his team-mate at the LA Galaxy.

Still, at least he wasn’t named as ‘Unidentified Fan’ by a US media outlet this time.
