THE GAA HAVE revealed how their new Hawk-Eye system will work during championship games at HQ.
The Association say the ‘primary protocal’ entails:
- an umpire making a ‘box signal’ to indicate a request for Hawk-Eye.
- the ref then makes a box signal to request the system is used.
- The Hawk-Eye replay, like above, is shown on the Croke Park big screen.
- The ref confirms if the decision is a point, miss, etc.
These are the icons that will flash up for the fans:

What does Hawkeye cover?
- It covers Gaelic football and hurling.
- It detects points only.
- It does not detect goals.
- It does not cover playing rule infringements, eg – a square ball.
- It does not involve a TMO (Television Match Official)
