GAA set for throw-in to the busiest weekend of the summer

Fourteen senior inter-county ties and eight provincial clashes in other grades all adds up to a hectic week of Gaelic Games action.

GAA OFFICIALS HAVE announced the fixture details for the busiest programme of weekend action to date in the 2012 senior championships with 14 games down for decision over the course of next Saturday and Sunday.

The hectic schedule will commence across the water in Ruislip on Saturday afternoon at 1pm when London play Antrim in the first round of the All-Ireland senior football qualifiers and will conclude in Croke Park on Sunday evening after the meeting of the reigning All-Ireland champions Dublin and Wexford in the Leinster semi-final.

On Saturday there are six first round games in the All-Ireland senior football qualifiers along with two matches in phase one of the All-Ireland SHC and the mouth-watering semi-final clash in Ulster between Tyrone and Donegal in Clones at 4.30pm.

On Sunday, Croke Park hosts a Leinster senior football semi-final double-header while there are first round football qualifier games fixed for Dr Hyde Park and Brewster Park, and an Ulster senior hurling semi-final in Casement Park.

Here are the details for this weekend’s games.

Saturday June 30th

All-Ireland SFC Round 1: London v Antrim, Ruislip, 1pm, (P Hughes, Armagh); Wicklow v Waterford, Aughrim, 2.30pm, (P O’Sullivan, Kerry); Westmeath v Louth, Cusack Park, Mullingar, 7pm, (D Fahy, Longford); Tipperary v Offaly, Semple Stadium, Thurles, 7pm, (C Lane, Cork); Laois v Carlow, O’Moore Park, Portlaoise, 7pm, (S Doyle, Wexford); Longford v Derry, Glennon Brothers Pearse Park, 7pm, (M Duffy, Sligo).

All-Ireland SHC Phase 1: Wexford v Carlow, Wexford Park, 2.30pm, (Ref TBC); Limerick v Antrim, Gaelic Grounds, 3pm, (Ref TBC).

Ulster SFC semi-final: Tyrone v Donegal, St Tiernach’s Park, Clones, 4.30pm, (D Coldrick, Meath), (RTÉ/BBC).

Sunday July 1st

All-Ireland SFC Round 1: Roscommon v Armagh, Dr Hyde Park, 2.30pm, (M Deegan, Laois); Fermanagh v Cavan, Brewster Park, Enniskillen, 2.30pm, (B Cassidy, Derry).

Leinster SFC semi-finals: Meath v Kildare, Croke Park, 2pm, (M Collins, Cork), (RTÉ); Dublin v Wexford, Croke Park, 4pm, (R Hickey, Clare), (TV3).

Ulster SHC semi-final: Down v Derry, Casement Park, 3.30pm, (P Murphy, Carlow).

The times and venues have also been confirmed for Saturday week’s ties in the second phase of the All-Ireland SHC after this morning’s draw paired Clare with Dublin and Cork with Offaly.

Saturday July 7th

All-Ireland SHC Phase 2: Clare v Dublin, Cusack Park, Ennis, 7pm, (Ref TBC), (TV3); Cork v Offaly, Páirc Uí Chaoimh, 7pm, (Ref TBC).

Finally there is also action around the provinces in other grades this week.

Connacht

Saturday June 30th: MFC semi-final: Galway v Roscommon, Tuam Stadium, 5.30pm, (Ref TBC).

Leinster

Wednesday June 27th: JFC final: Kildare v Cavan, Newbridge, 7.30pm, (J Hickey, Carlow).
IHC final: Wexford v Kilkenny, Wexford Park, 7.30pm, (J Keenan, Wicklow).
U21 ‘A’ HC quarter-final: Westmeath v Louth, Mullingar, 7.30pm, (G Quilty, Kilkenny).
