QUICK JACK (9/2) WAS the big winner on Day 4 of the Galway Festival, claiming victory in the Guinnnes Galway Hurdle.
Ridden by Denis O’Reagan, the six-year-old made it back-to-back wins in the race for trainer Tony Martin after last year’s success with Thomas Edison, which fell at the last this time out.
“It’s magic,” Martin told Irishracing.com. “It couldn’t have been better going to the last but unfortunately poor old Thomas (Edison), a good friend of mine came a cropper – the first time he’s fallen – I hope he’s okay, he might be a bit stiff and sore but Mick Cromwell (travelling head man) will go down and tidy him up and get him right hopefully.
“The horse has been well all year. He’s come here with the right backing behind him.
He had a great run the last day in Chester and we felt he was in as good a form today, as he has been at any time of the year, and the ground was probably in his favour today, it’s the first time he got really nice ground.
“Everything went right in the lead up to the race and we couldn’t have been happier coming here with him. All we were looking for was luck in running and we got that – Denis was very good on him. He’s one of the top five jockeys and they don’t make mistakes.
The winner of Best Dress Lady – Alex Butler, from Midleton, Co. Cork
And the best of the rest…
