Five due in court after gardaí attacked and two garda cars rammed

One of the gardaí was taken to Cork University Hospital where he is recovering from his injuries.

FIVE PEOPLE HAVE are due in court this morning after gardaí were attacked and two garda cars were rammed in Cork.

One garda is recovering in hospital with a head and eye injury after a number of people attacked two gardaí when the car they were travelling in was stopped at Drishane More just after midnight.

Another garda was also injured, and the garda car rammed.

The car drove off in the direction of Youghal and a second garda car was rammed at Mount Uniacke Village and continued in the direction of Dungourney.

Gardaí then went to an address at Ballymartin, Dungourney where a number of Gardaí came under attack.

Five people were arrested – four men aged 18, 22, 35 and 46 and a 27-year-old woman.

A number of weapons, a car and cash have been seized.

All five were taken to Midleton, Cobh and Fermoy Garda Stations and are expected to appear before Mallow District Court tomorrow morning charged in connection with these incidents.
