There's already one Irishman in the Lions squad for the 2017 tour to New Zealand

We’re already one up on England, Scotland and Wales.

AUTUMN’S WORLD CUP is at the forefront of the agenda but preparations have already begun for the British and Irish Lions tour to New Zealand in 2017 with the appointment of Gerard Carmody as Director of Operations.

Carmody is currently the Team Services Manager at the IRFU and has held various roles within the union since 1992.

Having fulfilled the position of Logistics Officer during the Lions’ winning tour to Australia two years ago, Carmody brings a wealth of experience and will begin in his new role from January of next year.

His tasks will include the operational and logistical planning for the tour and he will undertake a reconnaissance trip to New Zealand next year.

In 2005, Carmody was appointed as Ireland’s team manager before moving onto his current role of services manager. He will remain part of the Irish staff for the World Cup during which he will oversee and manage operational support.

The fixtures for the 2017 tour have yet to be announced.
