South African lock will have to wait until 2018 for competitive Munster debut

Gerbrandt Grobler has undergone surgery on the ankle injury he sustained in a pre-season game.

MUNSTER HAVE CONFIRMED that Gerbrandt Grobler is set to be sidelined until the new year.

The 25-year-old South African lock has undergone surgery on an ankle injury he sustained in Munster’s pre-season win against Worcester Warriors.

Grobler, who joined the southern province from Racing 92 in the summer, will now have to wait until 2018 for his competitive Munster debut, having subsequently missed his side’s Guinness Pro14 wins against Benetton Treviso and Toyota Cheetahs.

Elsewhere, prop Dave Kilcoyne requires further assessment after sustaining a knock to his knee during Saturday’s defeat of the Cheetahs at Thomond Park.

Kilcoyne’s front-row colleague James Cronin returned to modified training today after undergoing a knee scope at the end of August.
