Woman allegedly claimed her relative died in Germanwings crash to get free flights

The woman also availed of counselling that was given to family members.

GERMAN POLICE ARE investigating a claim that a woman got free flights by claiming her cousin was killed in the Germanwings disaster.

The woman claimed to be a cousin of a teacher who died in the 24 March crash, which claimed the lives of 150 people.

German news agency DPA quotes a Lufthansa spokesperson as saying they are aware of the case, but could not comment because police were investigating.

Police in the North Rhine Westphalia state told DPA that they are acting on a complaint from the airline. The teacher’s father told local paper HalternerZeitung that the woman is no relation to the family.

It is believed that the woman flew twice to the Alps and back, taking three other people with her.

The woman also availed of counselling that was given to family members.
