'Get-well' wishes flood in for George Hamilton

RTE broadcaster’s fans show their support after he has emergency heart bypass surgery.

RTE HAS BEEN receiving scores of messages from well-wishers after it was reported that broadcaster George Hamilton had a heart bypass.

Hamilton’s sports colleague Des Cahill told listeners on RTE1′s Saturday Sport that the station had been inundated with messages for George. Journalist Elaine Keogh reported in several newspapers this morning that Hamilton, 60, was recovering in Blackrock Clinic in Dublin after undergoing the emergency cardiac operation.

Cahill said:

We’ll pass them (messages) onto George. We’re delighted that you’re thinking of him.

The RTE man’s Twitter account has also started to attract messages of support.

Hamilton has his own page on DangerHere.com which pays tribute to his years of colourful commentary (sample quote: “The orange tide is lapping against the green door which refuses to open”) but he shows another side to his personality with a weekly column on classical music for the Irish Independent.

We’ll leave it to Apres Match to pay due homage to a Hamilton-ism at 1:00:
