Given to stay at City

Keeper in staying-where-he-is shocker.

Shay Given has opted to stay at Manchester City, The Guardian reports.

The Ireland ‘keeper turned down the chance to be reunited with his former manager Mark Hughes at Fulham, and has had meetings with manager Roberto Mancini and club officials who convinced him to stay in Manchester and compete with Joe Hart for the number one jersey.

From the aforementioned Guardian report:

That decision could conceivably have repercussions for Arsenal’s hopes of signing Schwarzer, with Hughes having already gone on record to say he would allow the deal to happen only if he had a replacement lined up, although those attempts have been hampered by an injury to David Stockdale.
