Two GOAL workers seriously injured in Syria, one critical

The CEO of GOAL said, “This incident once again underlines the acute dangers that humanitarian aid workers face by working inside Syria.”

TWO GOAL WORKERS have been seriously injured in airstikes in northern Syria.

One of the staff members is in a critical condition while the other will need extensive reconstructive surgery.

A third Syrian staff member was also a victim of the attack, although their injuries are not life-threatening.

GOAL’s senior management is in contact with the families of the staff members involved. GOAL CEO, Barry Andrews, said:

We will do everything we can to support them, and all our Syria programme staff, with whatever they need over the coming days and weeks.

“This incident once again underlines the acute dangers that humanitarian aid workers face by working inside Syria.

They are putting themselves in harm’s way each day in order to deliver critical aid like food and water to some of the people most affected by the conflict.

“One can only hope that incidents such as this will focus the minds of those attending the international pledging conference for Syria in Kuwait on Tuesday.”

Williams told TheJournal.ie that GOAL has 500 staff working on the Syria programme and about 400 workers in Syria.
