Goold gets the nod for Rebels

Macroom man starts Saturday’s All-Ireland Qualifier at wing-forward.

CORK BOSS CONOR COUNIHAN has made just one change to the beaten Munster finalists ahead of Saturday evening’s make-or-break qualifier against Down in Headquarters.

Macroom man Fintan Goold comes in at wing-forward in place of the injured Ciarán Sheehan, whose season was ended when he was stretchered off with a cruciate injury during the second half of the defeat against Kerry.

Counihan has kept faith with captain Graham Canty, despite speculation earlier in the week that the full-back might be dropped to the bench for Saturday’s game.

Daniel Goulding, Cork’s top scorer with 2-15 in this year’s Championship, will lead the attacking line again from his usual position of corner-forward.

Cork (vs. Down): Quirke; O’Sullivan, Canty (c), Shields; O’Leary, Miskella, Kissane; O’Connor, Walsh; Goold, Kelly, O’Neill; Goulding, O’Connor, Kerrigan.
