Griffin given task of finding new Wexford hurling boss

Liam Griffin, who led Wexford to the 1996 All-Ireland SHC title, will lead the committee to find the next Model County hurling manager.

WEXFORD’S FORMER ALL-IRELAND winning manager Liam Griffin has been charged with finding the county’s next senior hurling boss.

Griffin led the Model County to the Liam McCarthy Cup in 1996 and is seen as the ideal kingmaker by the Management Committee of the Wexford county board, who appointed him on Wednesday night.

Board chairman Ger Doyle, Brendan Maher (Rathnure), Billy Byrne (Naomh Éanna) and Darragh Ryan (St. Anne’s) will all join him on the committee, with Margaret Doyle acting as secretary.

No time will be wasted on finding a replacement for Colm Bonnar, who completed his term at the end of the 2011 season.
